“I like to think of Maybe as a love letter to our potential. Maybe wouldn't be Maybe without the incredible work of the artist. Like many of you, I fell in love with her work the moment I saw it. Something most people don't know is that this is her first book. She had turned down 50 previous book offers. Her artwork is so detailed and time-consuming that she would have to dedicate over a year of her life to illustrate a single book and she had not found a book yet that she was willing to do that for. But I believed Gabriella was the one to bring Maybe to life, since I wrote it in such a way that the story line is told through the illustrations. I sent her my manuscript and she responded to me in the middle of the night with four words.

I was so delighted, and I told her that 5l is now my new favorite number!
